Walk in to the unassuming building (don’t expect any signs here) and you’ll see a parade of media-types swiping their membership cards to your right and heading up in an industrial-style lift. Don’t inadvertently join this queue, but instead bear left to the little desk which serves hotel guests. Expect striped sun loungers and fringed parasols by the rooftop pool, and artfully mismatched chairs in the various lounges and co-working spaces.

There’s a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights, and a photo booth to immortalise your Shoreditch shenanigans (after all, phones are very much frowned upon). Pop next door to the Tea Building for pizza courtesy of Pizza East, a converted warehouse restaurant with classic (mozzarella and tomato) and unusual (cheese-less with prawns) takes on the Italian favourite. Meat fans will find a second home at the Hoxton Grill on Great Eastern Street and some of the finest steak in town at Hawksmoor in neighbouring Spitalfields.

The building’s former life as a biscuit factory is also very much apparent with plenty of exposed brick, stone floors and pipes running along the walls.Normal rules don’t apply at Shoreditch House. Sufficiently reinforced, we head off to meet friends in the sixth-floor poolside lounge bar/restaurant. As it is a hot summer’s evening, this large space with retractable roof is jam-packed with the media and fashion worlds’ finest. An understandable delay in service is offset by the fascinating people-watching – and the obligatory celeb-spotting. Excitingly, ordinary mortals can now step into this rarefied world without paying the hefty membership fees, courtesy of staying at Shoreditch House. On the fifth floor of Shoreditch House is a beautiful restaurant serving internationally inspired club cuisine. The menu is available nearly all day long and includes a late-night menu, weekend brunch, drinks, and more. Additionally, Shoreditch House features a rooftop restaurant that serves California- and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine all day and into the night while surrounded by the breathtaking views of London. On the sixth floor, guests will find a small pop-up eatery called Maya, which serves Mexican-Californian food and is surrounded by the sixth-floor garden. The fact that hotel guests have full access to the Shoreditch House facilities is the real draw.
